TOOLS
The project was to create an application that would help parents track their children whenever they used the school bus system, and make sure the parents knew what steps to take in order to locate their child in the least amount of time possible. We wanted the tool to be used intuitively, making it easy to use through all of the devices on an iOS system. We had to gravitate towards an adaptive design, and create two separate designs. One design was created for the Desktop version and a second design was created for the Mobile and Tablet version. Although we would have preferred to have a single responsive design to fit all three devices, it was just not feasible. We learned that when you design for three separate devices such as a computer home, tablet and Mobile you have to be mindful of the type of design you will need. Some applications can benefit from responsive design, indicating that a single design should fit all three devices. However, that is not always the case, in our project we found out that we had to rely on adaptive design in order to create a more efficient and effective application. Our design for ChildSafe needed to be adaptive because we needed a separate design for parents to sign up and another design for parents to use the application. This approach would benefit the parents by directly routing them directly to the location of their kid, creating a sense of urgency for the application.
Parents rest assured their child is in route to and from their destination with a user-friendly mobile application, ChildSafe is designed to track the location of your child while traveling on a school bus, communicating directly between mobile phones, tablets, and computers.

Prototypes
Low-Fidelity paper prototypes for mobile, tablet, and desktop.
High-Fidelity prototype for mobile.
Trying to find out if the application was cohesive on all devices: website, tablet, and mobile. Also, the designers wanted to discover if there was anything else the user wanted to add, change or remove from the application itself. After collecting the data from the participants the goal was to find out if the tool "Locate my Child" was easy to access and easy to use. We wanted to make sure that parents knew what steps to take in order to locate their child in the least amount of time possible. We wanted the tool to be used intuitively, making it easy to use through all of the devices, desktop, tablet, and mobile.
The test administrators contacted and recruited participants that were both peers, relatives, and friends. The test administrators sent emails informing them of the test logistics and requesting their participation. The website provided the participants with a tutorial and tasks that werewritten by the test administrator. Participants were firsts required to watch a tutorial on how to use the program, they then proceeded to read the task scenarios and try to complete each task on the prototype. After the session, the participants were required to fill out a questionnaire, followed by a written commentary. After each task, the administrators asked the participants to rate the interface on a seven-point scale with measures ranging from Very Difficult to Very Easy. Post-task scenario subjective measures included a user commentary. Download the Usability Research Report!
Data was collected using the answers from participants, and they were recorded through screenshots, video capture, and written document reports. Surveys created by -tryMyUI- website allowed the designers to access the data in order to refine the final product. After the participants completed taking the surveys and usability test reports, the data was collected and reviewed.
All participants were peers, relatives, or friends of the test administrators. 27 participants performed the usability test on the following days: March 16, 2019 (3 participants), March 17, 2019 (4 participants), and March 2018 (1 participant). Of the 27 participants, 15 were female and 5 were males and their ages ranged from 25-65. Out of all the participants 12 have children. Out of the 27 participants only 4 had used Trymyui.com prior to the test.
I believe that as a team the most challenging part of the project was to coordinate efforts with group members. Assigning duties was the easy part everyone was ready to contribute to the project. The hard part was during the process of creating, updating and finalizing the low fidelity/ high fidelity designs, writing the reports, and updating the prototypes. On the other side of the coin, trying to find participants to complete my prototyping test was somewhat challenging. I found out that working with parents is really difficult since they are always attending to their children.
I found out that working on a team one has to be always available and ready to jump in on discussions no matter the time of the day. I was thankful to be part of a group that was always available and ready to communicate, it made the completion of the project much easier to accomplish. Also, when working with testers do not assume they are comfortable downloading and installing software applications to their home computers or devices. I learned it is better to take the time yourself and try to assist the participants in setting up their testing stations before each test.
